Hybrid Safety
Essential Hybrid Safety Procedures Essential Hybrid Safety Procedures
Jack Rosebro is a nationally recognized hybrid vehicle expert and trainer, and has written this fine article about working safely around hybrid vehicle high voltage systems. Essential Hybrid Safety Procedures is reprinted in its entirety, with the kind permission of Gears Magazine.

Mode 6 Case Studies
Mode 6 - ATTS Case Studies Mode 6 - ATTS Case Studies
We are happy to welcome G Truglia of ATTS back as a guest editor. One of G's clients is the City of New York M.T.A., and he sees lots of public vehicles that have been "rode hard and put away wet." Many have serious driveability issues and MIL-on failures that require repair and repair-verification. He has been kind enough to share several case studies with us that we've assembled in a Flash slideshow. This is good, real world auto repair, and illustrates how to use Mode 6 successfully!

Editor Editor's Notebook - February 2009
Welcome to Editor's Notebook, our quick-read section containing feedback from readers, small pieces of repair info too small to be a feature article, and anything else that tickles our collective fancy. Think of it as the AFW junk drawer.

Guest Editor
Doug Doug's Dirty Dozen

Tool Test
Small But Mighty - Autel AutoLink 309 Scan Tool Small But Mighty - Autel AutoLink 309 Scan Tool
There was a time when a scan tool purchase was an expensive proposition; even a generic model. Maybe you've been putting it off for that reason. How does $79.95 sound?

That's for a scan tool, not a code reader.

Tool Tests
Tool Test - Emissions Mate Tool Test - Emissions Mate
I must admit that I wasn't exactly bowled over by the Nextek Emissions Mate the first time is saw it. Great, I thought, another box with LEDs; just what I need. When I started thinking about what it does, however, I started warming to its concept in a hurry.

Bottom line? Nextek has come up with an elegant solution to an annoying problem: monitoring monitors.

Oil Change Service-Oil Filters
Oil Change Service - Part Three Oil Change Service - Part Three
This is the third article in a series on the importance of the oil change service:

Oil filters live in a rough neighborhood. Pounded relentlessly by pressure pulses and engine vibration, they freeze in winter and roast in summer. They are expected to remove a specified range of contaminant particle sizes from the lube oil, and then hold on to those particles until the filter is replaced. Filter failure is not an option for your engine.
